I read the John Carter of Mars series back in University always hoping it would be a movie. I was not disappointed with the Disney version in the theater. I decided to read the series again and re-live the adventures of John Carter. "I still live.". The series is excellent.

I loved the books about John Carter but I rely the books about his son and daughter were just a different Version of the same story. John carter and his love. His son and his love and his daughter and who she loved same thing with some little twist. I give it 4 stars but really it should be 3 and a half. Well written stories and I enjoined the books but by the end I was ready for it to be over. John carter parts kept me very intrested I wanted to see how he got out each problem. To bad the others were to much of the same thing.

If its for free, it's for me! I read these when I was a mere sapling about 40+ years ago. What a treat to re-read! Looking forward to "John Carter" next month in the theater.

As other reviewers have indicated, these works are now free, public domain. I did not know that before and frankly for a buck, it was worth it to save the time to find them and download them. Read these 5 stories for the content. I think that a lot of us are re-reading this book, having read it when we were in our teens or earlier. (I first read it when I purchased it through the science fiction book club). Yes, it can be somewhat maudlin and hokey at times, but the story is engrossing and enjoyable — you won't want to put it down. John Carter is a hero who is not perfect, but consistent with the period in which it was written, he does not have a "dark side" like more contemporary hero's seem to have. Woven in the the story is the story of love found and lost, found & lost again and found again.
