Description

Truth or Dare: Tell the One-Who-Got-Away that you're still madly in love with him OR spend the night trapped with him in a hunting lodge that's about to be swept downstream?

Ha! Trick Question. I get to do BOTH! Because when it rains, it pours.

First, I call Theo McGuire to tell him that I've always loved him and I always will--at least for the next few hours until Pippa Jane the Pig and I are swallowed by the floodwaters. Then, I open the second story window when Theo comes knocking in his kayak, in a likely doomed attempt to save us.

Soon, we're trapped in the cabin where we had our first time fifteen years ago and all I can think about is how much I wish I could turn back the clock. If I could, I'd never let this fiercely kind and sexy-as-hell man go.

Since this could be The End, we agree to make our last night a night to remember.

This second chance novella was a wild ride! The drama was intense, and made all the more poignant when you realize how it compares to all that the author has been through lately. Macy and Theo (and Pippa Jane) were extremely likable characters. The romance between them moved quickly, but didn’t feel rushed. I just loved their dynamic. And the unconventional ending had me grinning like a loon.

I really enjoyed Macy and Theo’s second chance, first love, forced proximity, coming home novella with a side of natural disaster. Macy and Theo were HS sweethearts but separated after graduation 15 years ago when Macy could not stay in their small town and Theo could not leave. Macy, feeling unmoored in her social media influencer nomadic life, has returned to Bad Dog with her pet mini pig hoping for reconciliation or closure or something. Shortly after arriving in town, there’s a terrible rain storm and flooding. Trying to restart your HEA in the middle of a natural disaster and courting potential death may seem like an odd choice but life works like that sometimes - chaotic and messy, painful and wonderful all at the same time. Despite being short, the story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters, and an engaging storyline as shown through sweet moments, steamy scenes, laugh out loud moments, messy families, painful pasts, big feels, and love.
