Description

This edition of Dracula by Bram Stoker features the original text, along with Stoker’s short story, “Dracula’s Guest,” beautifully realized for the iPad and including several full-color maps and historical illustrations.

Told in a series of first-person missives and reports, and set in 1890s Transylvania and England, Dracula is the source of every vampire story told in the 20th century, the founding text of the entire genre. Count Dracula, as Jonathan Harker, Lucy Westenra, Mina Murray, and Dr. Van Helsing learn, is a dangerous and powerful creature who’s lived for hundreds of years and possesses powers no mortal can claim. Bent on creating legions of Un-Dead followers in populous London, Dracula must be stopped—but how?

Also includes a brief introduction and author bio.

What other book can claim such an impact on an entire genre?! Stoker not only invents Dracula, but sets the stage for an entire world of vampires, werewolves, the occult, and the curious alliance of science with the spiritual. So much of the modern imagination owes homage to Dracula.

The lore is wonderfully crafted and explained. I enjoyed the chapters being written from the character's journals. It offered a different perspective from most books. It is chilling and gripping, seating you right in the midst of the characters travails. Worth It.

Dracula is a page-turner. Though it seems at first to have a sexist sensibility, I wondered if the author was actually satirizing the sexism of his time. By then the rumblings of the women's suffrage movement had begun, and Brahm Stoker, an educated man with a smart wife, surely was aware of the burgeoning revolution. Having seen several movies based on the book, I never realized how the male characters centered around the two main female characters. Regardless of any underlying feminist intent or not, it's beautifully written, with many moments of both beauty and true horror.

I understand why this is a classic. This is my first time reading Dracula, and it was simply amazing. This is a fascinating read, full of suspense and drama. I absolutely devoured this book - once I got started I couldn't stop. Other vampire tales don't even compare. This one truly is a masterpiece.

Never got into reading before. I found this book and read it using iBooks on my 4s. Very easy to read. Pretty good book. A bit long. Took me about 3 weeks or so to finish it. Now to watch the movie :-)

Truly epic! I'm not a fan of saying something is classic for the sake of mass acceptance, however, this work truly is worthy! An excellent and gripping adventure for the reader! As a fan of the movie growing up I was satisfied to put this work into my mental library! Please take the time!
