Description

An "engaging and awe-inspiring"(SF Signal) space opera from the critically-acclaimed author of the Revelation Space series.
Six million years ago, at the dawn of the star-faring era, Abigail Gentian fractured herself into a thousand male and female clones, which she called shatterlings. She sent them out into the galaxy to observe and document the rise and fall of countless human empires. Since then, every two hundred thousand years, they gather to exchange news and memories of their travels.
Only there is no Gathering. Someone is eliminating the Gentian line. And now Campion and Purslane -- two shatterlings who have fallen in love and shared forbidden experiences -- must determine exactly who, or what, their enemy is, before they are wiped out of existence . . .

Slow and confusing at first. But, with broad scope and fascinating conjecture, a fantastic voyage.
  • Excellent read.

Really well done…shockingly imaginative work within a well-explored and sometimes repetitive genre. Highl6 recommended .

It was a good book. I enjoyed reading it. I have to admit I like the series from the epsilon universe better. Mainly as I’m familiar with the characters. However, Alistair Reynolds’s is among if not my most liked SF authors. And find everything I’ve read worth the time. Just a note: I believe a rating should be accurate. Not handed out without real thought given. I’ve read maybe 1 or 2 for sure less than 5 series in my life that I’d honestly give a 5 rating to. So a 4 from me speaks very highly of the author and his books as far as I’m concerned.
  • An awesome, riveting tale

One of the best space opera-type books I have ever read. The pages kept turning and turning….
