I want to thank Avon for providing me with a copy of this book to read and give an honest review. Receiving this book for free has in no way influenced my opinion or review. As many of you probably know, I love JLA. I read everything she writes (and she writes A LOT). I'm fairly partial to this series. I love the characters and the situations. And I love how Armentrout always introduces something new to her stories that gets you hooked. So, of course, this book is no different. So, I wasn't really a fan of Stephanie when I first met her. I was mad at her for flirting with Cam when Avery was around. Or for even being in the room when she shouldn't have! But there's always a special story behind the characters that piss you off the most, right? So I was interested to see where JLA would take her story. Despite her standoffish nature in the previous books, she really opened up to me in this book. I got to know why she chose to keep herself shielded from love. And how she has great loss in her life that she can never get over. She's kind of a sad lost sole that needed to find someone to help her through to the other side. That someone came in the form of Nick. Now, from previous books we really didn't get to know Nick too well. He was always just kind of in the background. For me he was a bit of the funny man, but had this closed off nature that made me want to peel back his layers and see what was beneath. Stephanie breaks through these layers bit by bit. And it's not something Nick is used to, so he pretty much has a hard time with how to react to it. Of course it helps that he just oozes sex appeal. The mysterious man who makes you hot, who doesn't love that? Nick and Stephanie meet a very big stepping stone that I will not get into here, because I know how much people hate spoilers. It's one I predicted fairly early on, but that didn't make me want to put the book down. And I kind of predicted the outcome, as well. But I was interested to see how the characters chose to deal with it. And if they had the strength to overcome the tragedy and still have something between them. I will say this book brought tears to my eyes. I've had some personal experience with what the characters go through so it kind of hit a spot for me. I'm glad JLA was able to take this more than common topic and put it so eloquently on the page. Anyone who loves JLA and this series will certainly eat this book up! It's a great addition to the series. I can't wait to see what's in store next!
