Description

From the bestselling horror author of Within These Walls and The Bird Eater comes a terrifying novel that follows a teenager determined to break from his family’s unconventional—and deeply disturbing—traditions.

Deep in the heart of Appalachia stands a crooked farmhouse miles from any road. The Morrows keep to themselves, and it’s served them well so far. When girls go missing off the side of the highway, the cops don’t knock on their door. Which is a good thing, seeing as to what’s buried in the Morrows’ backyard.

But nineteen-year-old Michael Morrow isn’t like the rest of his family. He doesn’t take pleasure in the screams that echo through the trees. Michael pines for normalcy, and he’s sure that someday he’ll see the world beyond West Virginia. When he meets Alice, a pretty girl working at a record shop in the small nearby town of Dahlia, he’s immediately smitten. For a moment, he nearly forgets about the monster he’s become. But his brother, Rebel, is all too eager to remind Michael of his place…

Disturbing but the story she paints is incredible… I just wanted to give the main character of this book a hug. Definitely would recommend

I feel like you can predict the #ultimateTwist from a mile away and that it is wrapped up too quickly. Still a good read but the ending leaves something to be desired

I’m a lover of all things sick and twisted and I genuinely enjoyed this book. Although sometimes it’s a bit predictable, the plot twist got me good and overall it’s a great read!
  • Seems to be written for a younger genre

I had high hopes for this book as it had some decent reviews. But I found myself bored or annoyed with the explicit details about things that didn’t really matter. It seems to be written for the mind of a teen. Kind of generic and the plot was easily guessed about half way through. Not bad, but not great. Just ok.

A great read, sometimes it dragged too much and I just wanted it to end, then I got to about the last 100 pages and omg. everything came together. Really was good at making me hate the bad guy. Nice twist, I kinda knew it was coming but not to that extent. Would recommend though.
