Total surprise! I literally could not put it down. I had never heard of the author before and got the book on a whim. What a treat. It’s certainly a sleeper because it really should be a best seller on The NY Times Top Ten List. The writing, the story, the characters, especially the protagonist, are all as close to perfect as great fiction can be. I look forward to reading the author again. What an absolutely pleasant surprise. It’s worth your time to read it and I highly recommend you do. You’ll be recommending it to everyone as well!

I’m a relatively hardcore horror fan (classy horror: decent plot, well-developed characters, a story line that hasn’t been “reimagined” 1000 times, etc). I cut my teeth on Stephen King, who shall always reside at the top of my horror novelist shrine. But this book absolutely scared the hell out of me and left my jaw visibly dropped. Unique, terrifying, well-written....praise I rarely find in my heart, in this genre. If you are a true horror fan, you owe it to yourself to read this book.

I really enjoyed this. I’m always on the lookout for good horror, and Paul Tremblay delivered. I loved the fact that you went back-and-forth in wondering what was going on - whether it was a genuine haunting or not. It wonderfully crafted and I really struggled to put it down once I got into it. I would recommend if you’re looking for a good spooky read.

A truly depressing dive into the mental illness people and families go though, how it effects said family, and the inevitable downfall it can cause. This is my first book that I’ve read in at least 10 years, and I thank Tremblay for getting me interested in Novels again.

Great modern day twist on a classic horror theme.

I loved this book because it leaves much of the content up to the reader's decision. The ending was truly shocking. However, I felt much more sad than scared, which could be a good thing.

I read this book on a recommendation made by Stephen King. Started out a little slow, but by quickly picked up. Very dark book that by the end will have you wondering who actually was the mentally ill one.
