Description

Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork of honor and injustice in the deep South—and the heroism of one man in the face of blind and violent hatred.

One of the most cherished stories of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird has been translated into more than forty languages, sold more than forty million copies worldwide, served as the basis for an enormously popular motion picture, and was voted one of the best novels of the twentieth century by librarians across the country. A gripping, heart-wrenching, and wholly remarkable tale of coming-of-age in a South poisoned by virulent prejudice, it views a world of great beauty and savage inequities through the eyes of a young girl, as her father—a crusading local lawyer—risks everything to defend a black man unjustly accused of a terrible crime.

Great book. A classic. I recommend it 100%!! If you need help with the age group, level of bad words, or even just what it’s about, this is the review for you! SUMMARY To Kill A Mockingbird is about a young girl named Scout Finch and her older brother Jem. If you’ve heard this book is about a court case, you are correct, but it’s not only about that. A lot of stuff happens in the beginning before that. The court case doesn’t start until like halfway through the book. So anyways, it’s about those two kids (who are white, but the book led me to believe they were black[or so I thought]) and their adventures. You also must understand that there IS racism in this book but that the book wouldn’t have the meaningful story that it does if it wasn’t racist. The court case is about a young black man, Tom Robinson, who is accused of raping a white teenage girl. Scout and Jem’s father (who they, for some reason, call him by his first name) is Tom’s lawyer basically. I will also say that you will cry when you read this book (And if you somehow don’t, you’ll at least get misty eyed). And the white girl’s father is mad at Scout’s dad for some reason, and we’ll just say that doesn’t end well. BAD WORDS This book has the d word, h word, and n word very frequently. It also has both b words once each and the a word twice (Sorry if I’m a tiny bit off on that). AGE GROUP I would say at LEAST (I mean AT LEAST) eleven and up. There is some kind of heavy stuff in it (which I told you a little bit about), some scary stuff towards the end (see SPOILERS if you want to know), plus bad words. SPOILER ALERTS FROM THIS POINT ON!!! *Scout and Jem make a friend, Dill. He comes to visit every summer. One summer when he says he can’t, he ends up sneaking away and coming to see them anyway!!😜 *The girl I mentioned when I was talking about the court case is Mayella Ewell. *I think Tom was innocent!! I’m almost positive!!! *Bob Ewell, Mayella’s father, is killed. Technically it could have been suicide, but you can’t be sure. *Aunt Alexandra comes to live with the Finches. **BIG SPOILER Do not(DO NOT) read from page 348 on at nighttime. I scared myself half to death by reading that part at 10:30 pm when I was supposed to be asleep😋. But like seriously I’m not kidding. It has to do with Bob Ewell’s threatenings and his death. Please do not read this at nighttime! Thank youâ˜ș. THANK YOU FOR READING THIS!!đŸ™ŒđŸ»đŸ©”đŸ„łđŸ‘đŸ»đŸ˜

Since I was not raised in the USA, I had not read it. It was not a book required in grade school. Book Bub offered it as a special. I said to myself, why not? Started to read it and was hooked. Can’t wait to see the movie.
  • I now know why it is a classic.

It’s a classic and I can definitely see why. It’s a very well written book and the characters have depth and were written with care. The ending was definitely my favorite part as Scout got what she wanted.
