Description

Fans of the Divergent trilogy by #1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth will be thrilled by Four: A Divergent Collection, a companion volume that includes four pre-Divergent stories plus three additional scenes from Divergent, all told from Tobias's point of view.

This collection also makes a great pick for fans of the blockbuster movies who want to delve deeper into the character played by Theo James.

Readers first encountered Tobias as "Four" in Divergent. His voice is an integral part of Allegiant. Readers will find more of this charismatic character's backstory told from his own perspective in Four: A Divergent Collection. When read together, these long narrative pieces illuminate the defining moments in Tobias's life. The first three pieces in this volume—"The Transfer," "The Initiate," and "The Son"—follow Tobias's transfer from Abnegation to Dauntless, his Dauntless initiation, and the first clues that a foul plan is brewing in the leadership of two factions. The fourth story, "The Traitor," runs parallel with the events of Divergent, giving readers a glimpse into the decisions of loyalty—and love—that Tobias makes in the weeks after he meets Tris Prior.

Also includes three additional scenes from Divergent, told from Tobias's point of view!

And don't miss The Fates Divide, Veronica Roth's powerful sequel to the bestselling Carve the Mark!

So I read Divergent and was going to start on Insurgent but stopped myself. I saw this Four book and had to see what it was all about. It was awesome seeing the world through Four's eyes. Ross makes a good point though about characters. As a writer, I try to write a POV and sometimes it's the right one and other times it's not. While I loved this indulgence of Four's mind and what happened on his initiation, Tris is a driving force. I'm ready to read Insurgent now!

I must admit I was sad to see Tris die. Please keep her character alive in a way she makes Four a better man.

I was nervous about buying this series of short stories for the fact it may not live up to how the original series was written and played out. I could not have been more pleased to read that Four was supposed to be the original main character and am so glad she went back to finish these stories. It gives a wonderful insight as to what Four went through before, during, and after his initiation into Dauntless. It has me so excited, now that I know his point of view, that I'm going back to re-read the series and let the newfound knowledge open my eyes to minor details I may have missed before because of the lack of knowledge. Thank you Mrs. Roth for writing about Four. He's now loved even more than originally planned.

Written in the Divergent world from Four's point-of-view, this collection of stories give us background information and a deeper insight into Tobias Eaton, also known as Four. Coming into Dauntless two years before Tris' story begins in Divergent, Tobias is the first Abnegation to Dauntless transfer in years. Although he finds himself in the Dauntless faction, creating an identity of strength and perseverance, it seems to be an uneasy sort of fit for him as he struggles to reconcile all the different thoughts and feelings inside himself. He is just beginning his journey of understanding and self-realization in these stories and as these unfold it is obvious that there is more to discover about Four as the story progresses. These are quick reads, full of insight into the life of Four and his struggles to leave one life behind and build another. He is striving to fit in to a world that is so clearly and obviously different from the life he left behind, but at the same time he is also trying to reconcile all that is divergent inside him and fit the pieces of that puzzle together to become a whole person. Very well written, full of life and rich in detail, these stories give you insight into the life of a single character and into the spirit of the Dauntless faction. Yet, they also leave readers thirsting for more.
