So disappointing. The story was nothing but traveling around and making phone calls. Descriptions of cities and meetings…Blah!
  • A book about nothing

The plot is an endless and boring effort of raising ransom money… nothing more. One of his worst.
  • Not a worthy sequel

Tedious drawn out story line and in the end with no explanation for the central conflict of the plot
  • A Slog

Awful. Boring and poorly written. I couldn’t even finish it.

Very predictable, kept on waiting for a twist to occur but never did. It was not as suspenseful as other of his books.
  • To much suspension of belief

Fifteen years after narrowly escaping a criminal Memphis law firm with millions in mob money our hero is a partner in the worlds biggest law firm and his wife is an acclaimed food editor. Has the mob turned the other cheek? All is forgiven? Too big a hole that needs to be filled. Besides that, the plot was too predictable. Not Grisham’s best effort.
  • Not the same Grisham

I was so excited for this sequel to the firm, but it truly disappointed. So boring and the climax was blah. It felt like the author was just trying to show off his knowledge of other countries and law, rather than write an intriguing story. Such a disappointment
  • Not much happens

There was really not much of a story. No real intrigue. No surprises. No twists. It was a story where all that happened was some character fill-in with a lot of scene changes and air travel. I have come to expect so much more from Mr. Grisham. In the first book with Mitch McDeere, The Firm, there was real suspense and twists and plot developments with Mitch outsmarting the FBI, the Mob, and his employer, all in different ways. This book was very narrow in its premise. There is a kidnapping and an attempt to negotiate a release. No twist. No intrigue. Then the book just ends in a relatively unsatisfying manner. It was rather boring and not what I have come to expect.
