Description

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • From the bestselling author of The Flight Attendant, here is a gripping psychological novel of obsession and consequence.

When Laurel Estabrook is attacked while riding her bicycle through Vermont’s back roads, her life is forever changed. Formerly outgoing, Laurel withdraws into her photography, spending all her free time at a homeless shelter. There she meets Bobbie Crocker, a man with a history of mental illness and a box of photographs that he won’t let anyone see. When Bobbie dies, Laurel discovers a deeply hidden secret–a story that leads her far from her old life, and into a cat-and-mouse game with pursuers who claim they want to save her. In a tale that travels between the Roaring Twenties and the twenty-first century, between Jay Gatsby’s Long Island and rural New England, bestselling author Chris Bohjalian has written an extraordinary novel.

This book started off interesting, then got very slow and boring. I had trouble sticking with it. It picked up towards the end when I realized what was actually going on. An okay read.
  • Must stick with this book to the end.

I had a very hard time getting into this book. I was annoyed by all the Great Gatsby references and stupid, impractical and not believable story connections. However, by the end of the book most of this nonsense actually made sense and was part of an intricate story that I really, really enjoyed. I definitely would recommend this book, but you do have to be patient and open minded.

I found this book in a hotel while waiting for the elevator. I loved it, especially the ending. I'm so glad someone was kind enough to share this book. I definitely will read more books by Chris Bohjalian. I too will pass the book onto my friends.

This was long drawn out and boring and to find it lead to her breakdown was even worse. A bad read!!!
  • Not my kind of Book

I bought it because of the high ratings. Did not like this book at all. Long stretched out go no where book. Leaving the reader hanging with too many questions unanswered. This author likes to pat himself on the back too much for my liking. A boring read. Be prepared for some pretty foul language right off the bat.

I almost put this book away after 35 pages, but I am glad I didn't. Well written suspense novel with clues that are not obvious til near the end.

Best Bohjalian title ever. I didn't read this on the iPad. I stumbled upon it in a Barnes and Noble when it was advertised as a new favorite. I'd never really heard the name Bohjalian before but did recall the novel Midwives as an Oprah book club selection. This book was awesome and I couldn't put it down. It has become my favorite because it just wasn't what I expected and it kept my attention the entire time. It made me go back and read other Bohjalian novels and while I've enjoyed them all, this is by far, my absolute favorite.
