This book is a compilation of nineteen articles, on various urban issues that provide considerable challenges not only for the national government, but also for the city managers in contemporary India. The first section of the book provides an overview of macro urbanisation and urban growth in India. Section two focuses on employment and infrastructure. Urban housing, slums and basic amenities form the subject matter of section three. Section four highlights the existing problems of urban environment and health, whereas the last section is on urban policies in India. Beginning with a macro perspective the book focuses on the micro regional variations highlighting specific problems of urban India.
