Description

Welcome to the world of Hawthorne Prep.  A seemingly idyllic school where ivy clings to the thick stone walls and a wrought iron gate keeps out the townies who can’t afford to foot the hefty price tag.
A couple of months ago, the idea of being ripped away from my life in Chicago and plunked down in the middle of nowheresville, Wisconsin was unimaginable.  Laughable, even.  And yet, here I am, forced to wear a short plaid skirt and navy blazer to school every day.  The only silver lining is the brand spanking new G-wagon parked in the weathered brick drive.  All I have to do is make it through senior year and then I’m off to college.
Shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Wrong.
In a school like this, flying under the radar is impossible.
There’s a king who presides over the kingdom and he’s set on forcing me to my knees so I can kiss the crown.  Unbeknownst to me, being a Hawthorne in this town comes with a price and he’s going to make damn sure I pay what’s owed.

I actually like how their story started and how the story is going in the end. I'm a sucker for this type of romance. Plus the heroine is not annoying haha I like her chill. And I love the twins bond. It's awesome.
  • A dark Reimagining Romeo & Juliet

This is an dark reimagining of Romeo & Juliet minus the suicides. You could say this is no way an typical teen romance story. It’s pretty dark bullying involved and have a great deal of intense sexual situations that could be deemed as shocking due to the bullying content within the story between Kingsley Rothschild and Summer Hawthorne. Not going to give too much away if this story hasn’t been read by someone new, but you got to have a thick skin and have to remember it’s an fictional story even though there are some chapters that might be offensive and shocking at times. Despite of the dark themes in book 1, the sexual tensions & chemistry between Kingsley and Summer is pretty hot!!🥵🥵🥵 Even though Kingsley is an naughty and intense anti-hero, when he talks dirty to Summer, it does make any good girl panty melt🥵🥵🥵🥵!??
  • Bullying, Sexual Assault, and Degradation

I usually love this authors writing but this is just beyond horrible. The students, teachers and board are all part of encouraging bullying, sexual assault and degradation of the Hawthorne children. I actually stopped reading it in chapter 13. I understand bullying takes place but this is just over the top criminal behavior. The fact the the author wrote it encouragingly making the main characters accept and do these acts is just sad. Reading books is suppose to allow you to live hundreds of life times through different journeys, it also a way for you to understand the mental mindset of the author. This just tells me how sadistic she is.

  • No trigger warnings

So. I’ve read my share of bully romances and have enjoyed them, but I have some rules that they can’t break for the bully and the bullied to get together in the end. One of those is that the bullying can’t include sexual assault. That includes coercing sexual acts that the bullied character may end up enjoying but only did so because they felt they didn’t have a choice. This book includes that, and I had to stop reading because it was a personal trigger for me. I’ve really loved all of Jennifer’s other books, so I had high hopes about this one but was really let down. This kind of content might work for some people, but if it’s going to be included it needs to have a trigger warning for those of us who can’t safely read sexual assault scenes.
