Description

An over-the-top psychological thriller that tells the story of the scorned wife of a billionaire and her delicious plot to get revenge and bring him to his knees—a "sexy, deliciously dark journey" (Los Angeles Times) from a global superstar.

Faye has loved Jack since they were students at business school. Jack, the perpetual golden boy, grew up wealthy, unlike Faye, who has worked hard to bury a dark past. When Jack needed help launching a new company, Faye left school to support him, waitressing by day and working as his strategist by night. When the business took off, Faye stayed home and cared for their daughter.

Now, she is wealthier than she ever imagined, but more and more removed from the excitement of the business world. And none of the perks of wealth make up for the fact that Jack has begun to treat her coldly. When Faye discovers that he's having an affair, the polished façade of their life cracks wide open. Faye is alone, emotionally shattered, and financially devastated—but hell hath no fury like a woman with a violent past bent on vengeance. Jack is about to get exactly what he deserves—and so much more. In this splashy, electrifying story of sex, betrayal, and secrets, a woman's revenge is a brutal but beautiful thing.

I have a bad habit of choosing books based on price. I’ve become increasingly concerned that this is not a good strategy and have recently resolved to choose books based on perceived merit, I purchased this book after reading a NYT article that suggested this was one of the best books of 2020. Unfortunately, this is one of the worst books I’ve read in quite some time. The characters are superficial stereotypes, the plot is ludicrous and the ending is disappointing. And it cost $13. Ugh.

Cheesy romance with an unlikeable heroine and a thin plot. Just glossed over the fact that she set her college boyfriend on fire for really no reason and expected the reader to sympathize with her miserable life.

This was one of the best books I’ve read in awhile and I read A LOT! The premise, twists, character development and overall storytelling was perfect. I honestly didn’t want to finish it because I didn’t want it to end. Read it!

Spoiler Alert for a Rotten Ending! What a ridiculous ending! Maybe something was lost in translation? Faye is a morally corrupt shell who gets away with what? Maybe Framing her father for murder? Killing Ragnor? Seeing a computer file showing her morally corrupt shell of a husband Jack raping her child? Framing her husband Jack for Julienne’s fake murder? Maybe even Killing Sebastian?! I skipped the absurd dialogue- Faye as a master mind business mogul and tycoon?! As an empathetic friend to Chris?! She must have multiple personalities - the many faces of Faye would be a better title. She must have dissociative disorder if she didn’t see her daughter’s distress while being sexually abused - or too busy exacting her revenge. Hope there are no Fayes in my life! She’s a very disturbed shell..... or she-devil but not at all like the she-devil of the book written by author Fay that she alludes to as being named for as her mother’s favorite author. This book is very different from this author’s previous books which I’ve greatly enjoyed. It’s a puzzling book full of really creepy characters - not any authentic or likable.

Good story, had me guessing “the who done it” at the end. When Faye’s dark side started to show up you had to know something was going to happen, she had caused a lot of havoc. It’s the first book I have read by this author, I will be looking into the others.
