Tilman Fertitta, also known as the Billion Dollar Buyer, started his hospitality empire thirty years ago with just one restaurant. Over the years, he’s stayed true to the principles that helped him build the largest single-shareholder company in America, with over $4 billion in revenue, including hundreds of restaurants (Landry’s Seafood, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Morton’s Steakhouse, Mastro’s, Rainforest Café, and over forty more restaurant concepts) and five Golden Nugget Casinos. He’s also sole owner of the NBA’s Houston Rockets. This book shares the key insights that made it all possible.

In Shut Up and Listen!, Fertitta shares straight-talk “Tilmanisms” around six key action items that any entrepreneur can adopt today:

I approached this book with anticipation after seeing an interview with the man. His persona is one of having strength, confidence, and sharp business skills. I finished the book feeling like so much more could have been said about how he acquired and runs his operations. Each chaptor felt like another appetizer when I wanted a full meal. Not to say each wasn’t satisfying, it just wasn’t enough. I’m using the food metaphor because Mr. Fertitta has mastered the restaurant business like no other. But the man obviously has built an empire of multi businesses that is worth talking about! His next book should be all about overcoming the adversity he has faced, especially this past year of COVID lockdowns and how he has managed to keep his 600 restaurants afloat. I’m looking forward to it!

A lot of this stuff is info you should already know. But you have your reasons on why, this book sheds another point of view in and really makes you focus on that particular topic. Easy read. Worth reading again to stay a top on things.
