Description

A New York Times bestseller: A graphic novel of war and its aftermath.

A powerful, compulsively page-turning, vivid, and moving tribute to the experience of war and PTSD, The White Donkey tells the story of Abe, a young Marine recruit who experiences the ugly, pedestrian, and often meaningless side of military service in rural Iraq. He enlists in hopes of finding that missing something in his life but comes to find out that it's not quite what he expected.

Abe gets more than he bargained for when his journey takes him to the middle east in war-torn Iraq. This is a story about a Marine, written and illustrated by a Marine, and is the first graphic novel about the war in Iraq from a veteran. The White Donkey explores the experience of being a Marine, as well as the challenges that veterans face upon their return home, and its raw power will leave you in awe.

I’m AD/AF, picked up interest in the comic strip from my Marine brother-in-law, loved from that day since! Been really looking forward to reading this, and am glad I did! I’ve been lucky in my 6 deployments, to not be on the ground for any real engagements, but I have nothing but respect for all those on the ground every day and as always want to thank those who do. After I finished reading this it made me really think about a number of things from why I joined to why I’m still in. I feel that everyone who serves, needs to reflect at times when needed to keep focus and clear the head, and this book is another in a few instances that I’ve reflect and I say thank you for that!

Being an Active Duty Marine this book really puts a huge light on the effects of PTSD and how your life changes from it. This book was in all honesty great and 10/10 recommend it to others now after I’ve read it. I hope you write more books. Thank you for this one.

Based on the Terminal Lance series I didn't think the author could write something this amazingly relatable and beautiful. This story had me in tears by the end of it. Definitely worth the read.

I have finally had a chance to finish reading the book and wow! I knew that Garcia was going to die, but I wasn't prepared for the way that he died, all the the sorrow and sadness I felt it like if I was there. The book is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to showing what military life is like and for recapping a 9 to 10 month period it was well done. Max, congratulations, this has to be one of the best Graphic novels of all time and you deserve that. Thanks for the book.
