The book is 5 stars—incredible story, beautifully told. Margaret Mitchell has a way of immersing the reader in her characters’ world, and it doubled as a history lesson, as well. I found myself doing extra-curricular research on battles and commanders and all sorts of other Civil War era facts as she shared about that time from a Southerner’s viewpoint. It is not a “politically correct” story, but one cannot expect it to be given the timeframe it covers. Moreover, it is told from the point of view of aristocratic Southerners, so there is deep sympathy and justification for several cringe-worthy ideals. The colored characters are also higher caste, so they have well-developed opinions about lower caste slaves and freedmen. If it is read it for what it is and the story is given the freedom to express itself at a turning point in history, then it is easy to appreciate this tale for not only the storytelling, but also its historical value. The format of this ebook rated 4 stars. There are multiple typos throughout. They seem to become more plentiful toward the end, almost as though the transcription of the text were rushed. It made me wonder if there were other careless errors, such as omissions, but even if there were, there were no glaring holes in the story. Overall it was easy to overlook, considering I only paid a little over a dollar after tax. Definitely worth it to read this amazing love story again. It will forever be in my heart as much a love story between Scarlett and Melanie as it is between Scarlett and Rhett.

Man, can this woman write! Too bad this edition was riddled with typos. I guess I should have expected it for how cheap it was...

So I’ve seen the movie about ten times at least and because my sweet departed mother read this in her youth decided I needed to read it too. The movie was great for entertainment but I will never see this story the same. It will haunt me forever, I literally sobbed in sections. The author masterfully takes you to another place and time and mind. And while some of the racial slurs and comments are shocking at times, you have to remember the time it was written and the period it was written about. There’s also a great amount of history gained by this novel in reference to the latter and the war in general. Amazing is too small a word to describe this read. It touched my soul. Precious precious story.

An incredibly sad love story of two people never able to capture their image of love and therefore ruining their lives. A great story of the pre and post civil war era from a perspective you don’t often read about.

I paid $0.99 expecting to receive the entire novel, but only received 2 sample pages. Impossible to review a novel based on 2 pages - consider this a review of the unacceptable, incomplete delivery of this particular edition.
