  • Clunky but engrossing

A truly unique and engrossing premise makes up for occasionally clunky dialogue.

This book is a fun read, but that’s about it. Characters, while wonderfully unique, are shallow—1.5 dimensional. The story reads rather like a trailer to a Marvel Universe movie; it’s big and bold, but doesn’t test the reader at all. There aren’t any reasons to think about the book when not reading it. If you just want a quick, fun read, read this. If you’re a Heinlein, Asimov, or Herbert fan, you may want to look elsewhere.

One of the very few books in recent memory that I could not stop reading until I was done. Very different writing style too, and I can’t wait for the sequel(s).

    Beyond interesting.

Say you like it when you cannot maintain character development or are completely driven by obvious plot points— then this is the book and author for you. The writing is lazy. The characters are cliche. And the story itself is forgettable

I’m not always a fan of the “collected artifacts” approach to story telling but the author pulls it off masterfully. Fascinating characters and the plot twists just keep coming. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
  • I really wanted to like this book, but…

At first the “interview with a mysterious, threatening, powerful maybe-government person” was interesting. But the format grew old for me. The interviews being the only dialog in the entire story grew stale.
  • A whole lot of fun

The Martian meets World War Z. Fun, creative, ingenious. It’s a clever story, cleverly told. The characters are all interesting, especially the unnamed interviewer. The plot and overall conceit are exciting.
  • It’s a book!

I have read hundreds of sci-fi books and I can say, with out a doubt, that this is one of them. It’s a book! Perhaps one of the better books about a dismembered robot left thousands of years ago by a technologically advanced civilization. Worth a go.

Read it in just a couple days, gripped me like no other book has in a long while.
